The May meeting and luncheon was the finale of our regular RMWG season. Highlighting it were many announcements (see minutes later on on the minutes page), gifts and thanks from the retiring president Pat Sandt for her board and committee chairs, stunning products displayed by study groups, inspiration for the future of weaving from Anita Osterhaug (Interweave Press), and lovely, creative wearables in the fashion show.
The door prize, a skein of green silk, was donated by Treenway, and won by Beverly Weaver. Bev Kajko (incoming president) announced the Web Award for 2013–it went to Tina Broderson, who was astonished and honored to receive it (and will treasure the beautiful woven silver pin as well as the support and appreciation she has received from the guild).
Anita Osterhaug chose the fashion show awards, a difficult task as there were more than 20 remarkable entries, with some artists wearing and sharing multiple items. Pat Sandt was the very entertaining MC for the fashion show, which included woven, knitted, needle-felted, and crocheted projects. Eunice York won the award for “Best Use of Materials” for her “Starry Night Shawl”, which included a supplementary warp. Karen Littlefield‘s “Faux Fox Stole” received an award for the “Best Use of Humor” or maybe it was “Best Entertainment Value”! The “Best Overall” went to Tina Broderson for her “Interrupted Twill Diamonds Shawl”, in which a bright pink warp was muted by a pale gold weft. Eunice’s shawl also was voted “The People’s Choice”.
Wooden Spools, Schacht, and Recycled Lamb donated the fashion show awards, for which we are most grateful. Anita and Handwoven/Interweave Press were kind enough to offer to do her presentation pro bono–thank you! Almost everyone then adjourned to India’s Restaurant for a lively, tasty lunch buffet.
